Deliciously Indulgent Appletiser

That is why we take a responsible approach to the growth and development of this beautiful valley, which encompasses economic growth, transformation, social development and the environment, leaving a sustainable legacy in the livelihood of the local community.
Economic Growth
Appletiser aims to be the employer of choice and is proud to be a sponsor of the Elgin Valley Tourism Initiative, which endeavors to promote the Elgin Valley and Grabouw regions from a tourism perspective. Research has demonstrated that every 7 tourists create one new job, contributing to job creation and the economy of the home of Appletiser.

Environment
Appletiser’s journey to Sustainability
Our journey to sustainability is underpinned by how we as a business conduct our operations, so that it is environmentally sustainable. In order to continue producing our unique product we will need to face up to the global challenge of managing the impact of climate change. We have identified a few areas in which we can make the most significant difference.
These include resource efficiency, elimination of waste and pollution and reducing Appletiser’s carbon footprint in addition to contributing directly to the well-being of the Elgin Valley, home of Appletiser.
In spite of being a relatively low environmental impact organisation, Appletiser’s progress includes the following:
We currently utilise 4.2HL (hectolitres) of water per HL of finished product and our aim is to meet the 3.5HL/HL target.
Our water treatment initiate aims to ensure the water put back into the system is cleaner than it was when it was taken out.
Through various initiatives, Appletiser’s energy utilisation has been reduced to 39MJ/Hl (Megajoules per Hectolitre). Our objective however, is to reduce this level further, especially in the face of escalating electricity prices.
Operational waste at Appletiser is minimal, with the 3.8HL/HL effluents treated and used for irrigation of orchards at a neighbouring farm.
Transformation
Appletiser is truly committed to the transformation and diversification of our workforce. Preference is given to previously disadvantaged suppliers and all new suppliers BBBEE scorecard levels are taken into account. Existing suppliers are encouraged to increase their BBBEE scorecard rating.
Social Development
Appletiser actively invests in local education, which we believe is at the heart of creating a better future. A number of pre-primary, primary and secondary schools have benefited from this initiative.
In addition to the above, Appletiser has been involved with the Elgin Learning Foundation (ELF), a foundation that serves disadvantaged communities of South Africa in primarily rural areas through education, training and development. Over the past 3 years, we have recruited 25 new locals from the community who completed their schooling but had limited further education opportunities.
Our learnerships have allowed disadvantaged individuals to obtain a NQF qualification while working full time and gaining experience in their chosen field of study. We also provide bursaries to our employee’s children who wish to study after completing school.
Our HIV programme offers voluntary HIV testing facilities, whereby ARV’s are provided by Appletiser.
